Visiting The Wren’s Nest

The Wren’s Nest is pleased to host historic house tours and a live storytelling performance every Saturday. We are open to the public from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. 

Guests are asked to purchase a timed ticket for tour admission.

To attend both a tour AND the weekly storytelling performance, please select the 1:00 p.m. ticket option. If Eventbrite ticket sales have closed for a particular date, please call us at 404-753-7735 to make admission arrangements.

The Wren’s Nest is closed on Memorial Day Weekend, Independence Day Weekend, and takes a winter break from Christmas to New Year’s Day.

The Wren’s Nest will also be closed on November 30 in honor of the Thanksgiving holiday.

Historic House Tour

By exploring each room of The Wren's Nest, the historic home of a noteworthy American writer, tour takers will learn about the life of Joel Chandler Harris, the significance of the Brer Rabbit folktales in American literature, and trends in Atlanta history encapsulated by the city's oldest house museum. Tours last approximately 30-45 minutes and are offered on Saturdays at 11:00, 12:00, 1:30, and 2:00.

Storytelling Performance

For decades, The Wren's Nest has presented a weekly storytelling performance on Saturdays at 1:00, allowing visitors to hear the tales in the spirit of their original form. Professionals perform at these sessions, all of whom bring a unique style to their craft, making the old stories come to life for people of all ages. Storytelling is optional, and the performances last approximately 25-35 minutes.

We’re five blocks west of the West End Station (S2) on Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard. It’s a 10-minute walk, or you may take the #71 bus.

By Car

Take I-20 to exit 55A, Lowery Blvd. Head South. Turn right onto Abernathy Boulevard. We’re two blocks down, just beyond West Hunter Street Baptist Church. Free parking is available at The Wren’s Nest—simply proceed up our driveway.

Know Before You Go

Parking at The Wren’s Nest

  • The Wren’s Nest parking is free and can comfortably accommodate 15 full-size cars.

  • Travel and tour vans are welcome; however, tour buses may experience some difficulties and will be required to back out of the driveway.

  • Groups that anticipate having more than 15 individual cars will need to coordinate additional offsite parking.

What to expect

Tours last approximately 30-45 minutes and explore each room of the Wren’s Nest, including the life of Joel Chandler Harris, the significance of the Brer Rabbit folktales in American literature, and trends in Atlanta history encapsulated by the city's oldest house museum. Pictures are allowed; however, flash photography is discouraged, and a single non-historic restroom is available on-site. The Museum gift shop offers books, toys, and souvenirs to commemorate your visit.

The museum has made necessary modifications to accommodate visitors with disabilities, including ramps and accessible pathways, guided tours, and live storytelling sessions for up to 25 seated adults and mobile and motorized ambulatory devices.
