March 17: Tea & Stories - Celebrating Women's History Month

Join us for an enchanting afternoon at The Wren's Nest as we celebrate Women's History Month in partnership with Kuumba Storytellers of Georgia. Our intimate "Tea & Stories" event will feature insightful stories, an open mic session, an engaging tour, and homemade refreshments from local Black-owned businesses.

Doors open at 3:00 for performances from six local women storytellers narrating the captivating tales of remarkable women and girls who have often been overlooked in the annals of history. The lineup includes Kuumba Youth’s 'Tattletale' Laila Thomas, Dr. Christine ArinzeSamuel, Vern Bailey, Gwendolyn Napier, Dr. Bernice Whitaker, and Ra Malika Imhotep. These performers will bring to life the legacies of inspirational figures like Ella Fitzgerald, Harriet Power, Wilma Rudolph, Chloe Henderson, Grace Wisher (former indentured servant of Betsy Ross), and more.

During the 4:00 Open Mic portion of our event, we will open the floor to attendees to share passages from their favorite female authors or personal stories of women who have empowered and inspired them.

The event will conclude with a 4:30 "Women of the Wren's Nest" museum tour, providing our main tour with a special unveiling of the newest items to our collection.
